Where I’m From…
I am from making sure you say “I love you” at the end of phone calls
And where birthdays are big deals no matter how old you are.
I am from “see you later,” not “good-bye”
And where promises are kept.
I am from where you can count your true friends on one hand
And from laying out by the pool was the life before kids.
I am from summers spent at the beach with everyone running around playing
And where pictures are always being taken.
I am from where family comes first
And sisters are your best friends.
I am from pulling each other in boxes attached to skateboards
And kickball in the cul-d-sac until dusk.
I am from eating home-cooked meals during the week
And Friday’s at Ryan’s Steakhouse.
I am from T.G.I.Friday with Corey and Topanga
And where Skreech is Saved by the Bell.
I am from Saturday morning cartoons
And learning how to flip pancakes on Sunday morning with Dad.
I am from where weekends are filled with softball practice and games
And from hide-and-go seek until midnight.
I am from cabbage patch dolls
And where American Girl dolls come to life.
I am from where beanie babies are the entire craze
And still under the bed.
For one of my classes for school, we had to write a poem of where we were from. This was mine. When I started writing it, I couldn't help but remember all of the fun times of growing up and all of the wonderful times right now. Oh how life has changed, but oh how I wouldn't change it for the world.
