1st Grade

My little man is in first grade and we're almost a quarter done with the year. Time is flying by. It is so hard to believe that it is almost October! Jalen has adjusted well to first grade and is taking on all kinds of new challenges! We are so proud of him!! He excels in math and is reading great. He tries no matter what the problem is and usually succeeds! When he tracks out he is going to read a book to Ryan's class!

School

Jalen has been doing very well in school and I couldn't be prouder of him for all the effort he puts in. He's willing to try anything new and is eager to learn. His spelling is coming along great and he loves math!! Math is definitely his strong subject. He enjoys taking picture walks through books and picked up his BOB books last night. He's not confident enough yet to read his other readers he has but he's doing well. He sounds out words and even brags when he can spell a new word. Last night he said he would re-do his assignment because he put Mom. I said it was ok! He said I really can do it again, I know how to spell Mommy. He's such a joy. I love looking at his assignments from school and they talk about mommy and daddy.

Field Trip

Jalen had his first field trip last Friday. He went to Phillip's Farm in Cary, which has different activities for the kids (like duck races, bounce house, pedal cars, slide), a corn maze, and a hay ride. I went as a volunteer and Nick met us there on his lunch to see him. We walked around with him and another friend in his class. Jalen's biggest accomplishment that day was riding the bus for the first time. He was a little scared, but he did it and loved it. Mommy isn't ready for him to ride it every day, by any means! He ate lunch at the farm and everything. He had a great time and I was glad I was able to go and see him on his first field trip!

He DID IT!

This past week Jalen recognized all 26 letters of the alphabet! We are so proud of him. He's is determined to learn and it makes me so happy. He loves school and loves learning. My goal is to keep him this way!

Graduation Day!!

Today is the day.. Jalen graduated from preschool. He did a fabulous job at his graduation and had a great year. Jalen was super excited that Grandpa, Oma, Opa, Li, Brooklyn, Ki, AJ, Ry, and Auntie Kia was able to come to his graduation. He did all of the songs perfectly and I have to say he had the best slideshow picture. Everyone loved his crazy baby hair.. I can't believe how big my baby is and it's hard to believe that next year he'll be in Pre-K. We are very blessed.. Jalen will be going to a Pre-K program at his school now, not Kindergarten. He is excited to stay at his school for one more year.

Christmas Play!

Jalen's Christmas play got canceled because of snow before his Christmas break.. I was so bummed, but they called and rescheduled it for today. He did so good. I am so proud of him. It makes me really sad that this is his last Christmas play at Meadowland. I can't say enough great things about his preschool. I video taped it, but apparently, they are too long, so just look at how freakin' cute he looks!!!

My Little Pilgrim

Jalen had a Thanksgiving feast at his school and he was a pilgrim. He looked so cute and had a blast with all of his friends eating turkey, cheese and crackers, grapes, carrots (well, not Jalen), and cupcakes!

Fall Festival

At Jalen's school on last Wednesday they had their Fall Festival. This year I choose not to volunteer, so I could walk around with him. I hated not being able to walk around and spend the time with him, so this year I did. He had lots of fun. He's so different in school. He is quick to listen, follows what they say, holds his little finger over his mouth with his hand on his hip in the halls.. It makes my heart melt and makes me sad at the same time. Where's my little boy going?!!? Needless to say, he had a blast and loved doing all the activities, especially getting the candy and prizes!

First Day of School

Jalen started school. I had not posted about this yet because we went through a rough period and we really didn't know what to do, but we're getting there... Jalen was placed in an older class and the first few days he had a rough time, but we're getting used to it now and think it will really benefit him. He's so smart and loving! :) I love my little man and he's the best lil boy ever!
